CLAE 2012 Spring/Summer Collection

Unearthing a brand that your fellow countrymen are unaware of is akin to digging up buried treasure. Back in my mid-teens, my discovery of CLAE footwear in the cavernous depths of Carnaby Street felt like a feat worthy of such a long and drawn out metaphor. As CLAE have entered the wider public eye, the quality of the footwear has grown – along with the sale figures.
The spring/summer 2012 collection from CLAE features smart designs paired with earthy tones, both appropriate and necessary for the upcoming sunny weekends. In particular, the orange sole under the new CLAE Strayhorn gives an injection of life to their unique take on the desert boot, whilst their new creation, the Chambers, is described as the modern-day gentleman’s moccasin. Providing comfort and versatility, the Native American-derived footwear is fitting for a company that highlights those two words in their own description.
The appeal of CLAE is simple; they’re innovative. The silhouettes they have been creating since their establishment – along with their renowned attention to detail – has been a breath of fresh air into a world formerly dominated by sportswear giants like Nike, Adidas and Puma. As a fan of over half a decade, I can inform the intrigued reader that the quality of the materials and the comfort of the footwear has evolved extensively as the company has grown. The Russell Hi is my favoured everyday trainer for those reasons.
With recent talk by Matt Allinson of investing in ‘a pair of grown up trainers’ I urge you to ponder CLAE. Try on a pair and take that weird walk around the shop that everyone does when buying new shoes; you won’t regret the path you’ll be treading.
